Die gibt es noch, man muss nur danach suchen. Letzten Sommer war ich bei zahlreichen kleinen Craft Farms in Mendocino, Humboldt und Trinity, habe Interviews geführt und echte Eindrücke gesammelt. Auch auf dem Cannifest, einem jährlichen Cannabis- und Musikfestival im Humboldt County, war die lokale Szene aus dem Emerald Triangle vertreten - Brands, die zum Teil regenerativ, organisch und outdoor anbauen, neue Sorten vorstellen, Kultur leben. Dort hat man die Substanz wirklich gespürt. Es gibt auch Dispensaries, die bewusst auf lokale Produkte setzen und auf die großen Brands verzichten. Aber es ist eine Nische. Ohne persönliche Kontakte funktioniert dort erstaunlich wenig. Das hat mehrere Ebenen. Da ist die Waldbrandgefahr, mit der viele Gegenden jedes Jahr leben - das schafft echte Nachbarschaft, gegenseitige Verlässlichkeit, keine Performance. Und da ist das Erfahrungswissen rund um Cannabis: Anbau, Genetiken, Mikroklimata, Trocknung, Verarbeitung, Qualität. Wegweisende Sorten wie Skunk #1, California Orange, Girl Scout Cookies, Zkittlez oder Runtz sind in dieser Region entstanden. Durch Community-basierte Arbeit, durch Pheno Hunts, durch ehrliche Bewertung von Pflanzen im Kollektiv. Gerade fernab der Metropolen merkt man: Cannabis ist nicht nur ein handelbares Gut.
